Why I’m Moving to Bluesky
I've decided to move my personal social presence to Bluesky and want to share my reasoning.
A Necessary Change
The current state of social media has become increasingly concerning. Twitter/X's changes since the buy-out have significantly impacted the quality of discourse. Instagram, Facebook, and Threads have all seen a marked increase in harmful content and misinformation, making these spaces less conducive to meaningful connection—a problem that will only get worse with Meta’s decision to cut its moderation efforts.
Why Bluesky Matters
Bluesky’s thoughtful approach to community safety and content moderation stands out in today's social media landscape. When a platform prioritizes user well-being over engagement metrics, it creates space for genuine voices and meaningful connections. This isn't about restricting speech—it's about fostering an environment where everyone can participate without fear of harassment or harm.
Beyond the Surface
This transition isn't just about features or moderation. It's about choosing to engage in spaces that align with our values. It's about supporting platforms that understand the difference between free speech and unmoderated chaos. Communities thrive when they have both freedom and protection, and Bluesky seems to grasp this essential balance.
Moving Forward
While Bluesky isn't perfect, it represents a step toward what social media could be—a space that truly serves its community. For those interested in continuing our conversations and connections, I'll be building my presence there.
In a time when we talk so much about freedom, perhaps it's worth considering how the platforms we choose to use reflect those values. I hope you'll join me on Bluesky—let's build something better together.
